IPL 6: Wasim Akram quits KKR as bowling consultant


Former Pakistan legendary pacer, Wasim Akram has made it clear that he would not be associated with the IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders for the sixth edition of IPL citing personal reasons. Wasim Akram was the bowling coach and mentor of the Gautam Gambhir-led side in the lucrative league since three years and was also a part of the core team along with coach Trevor Bayliss in coming up with strategies for the IPL champions during his reign. 




   
According to Kolkata Knight Riders, Wasim Akram has expressed his desire to quit KKR during IPL 6 and has hinted at rejoining the team later since there is a need to spend time with his family as his two teenage sons Taimur and Akbar need his support at the moment.
 

KKR, DD to face off on IPL 6 opening day


 The sixth edition of the tournament will comprise nine teams, including the debut of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise – which came into existence in October after the disbarring of the Deccan Chargers – who will play their first match against Pune Warriors India on April 5.
Each of the nine teams will play each other twice, home and away. The top four teams from the group stage on May 19 will qualify for the IPL playoffs. The Qualifier 1 and Eliminator games will be played at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 21 and 22, while the Qualifier 2 and final will be held at Eden Gardens on May 24 and 26 respectively

IPL 6 : Low-profile, big-budget - the big gainers

 IPL 6 auction in Chennai saw 37 players sold for a combined total of $11.89 million. Of those, Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell attracted the maximum bid of $1 million and the two other notable signings were Kane Richardson, who was bought by Pune Warriors India for $700,000, and South Africa's Chris Morris, bought by Chennai Super Kings for $625,000.




Among the lesser-known players who also earned big bucks were the uncapped Western Australia fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile ($450,000), Sri Lankan offspinner Sachitra Senanayake ($625,000) and young Australian allrounder James Faulker who found himself richer after Rajasthan Royals paid $400,000 for his services.

IPL 6 -  Virat Kohli has been appointed the new Royal Challengers Banglore – IPL6   captain. Kohli succeeds the highly respected and successful Daniel Vettori.



Kohli’s appointment follows a productive IPL 2013 auction in which RCB strengthened their bowling line-up significantly and added capable all-rounders to increase the amount of flexibility in the selection of the playing squad.

Dr Vijay Mallya said, “We are delighted to announce Virat as our captain. His hunger to learn, lead, motivate and set an example is unquestionable.”

Katy Perry, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan open IPL 5


Bollywood and cricket blended seamlessly to make for a glitzy opening ceremony of the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) here (Chennai) Tuesday night with a special performance by Hollywood's India-lover Katy Perry.

Tens of thousands of people at the YMCA ground cheered lustily as Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Prabhu Deva, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra went through their routines during a pulsating two-hour colourful ceremony.






 Priyanka Chopra took the packed audience by surprise when she went up in the air during her performance, and got cricketer Harbhajan Singh to dance a little jig with her.


Later, Priyanka Chopra took to the stage again to interact with the cricketers of title holders Chennai Super Kings, who are led by India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. She pulled Dhoni's leg, and asked the boys to join her for a dance on hit Tamil song "Nakka mukka".

101 Players to go under hammer today


IPL 6 News :   Australian captain Michael Clarke and former skipper Ricky Ponting are likely to attract most attention when the nine franchises sit for the players' auction of the Indian Premier League 6 on Sunday.

While 101 players will go under the hammer during the auction, which will be only for the next edition, Clarke and Ponting, who are in the highest base price bracket of USD 400,000 (approx Rs 2.1 crore) will be the sought after players.

The bidding war that his name triggered at the IPL players auction left Chris Morris' head spinning and the South African all-rounder conceded that he has never seen the kind of money he would now be drawing.




"I have never in my life seen this much money," said Morris, who was bought for a whopping USD 625,000 (Rs 3.3 crore) by the Chennai Super Kings, 31 times more than his base price of USD 20,000.
